ORTHO NP – HAWAII-Company: Confidential – Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner needed for clinic opportunity hospital based; need an experienced orthopedic NP to work with 2 orthopedic surgeons who handle most of the load. One of the surgeons is a hand specialist who does lots of micro-vascular work as well as general orthopedic surgeries. The other surgeon is sports related doing more ankles, shoulders, knees, and hips. Additionally, a neuro-surgeon comes in two weekends per month for clinic and surgeries. This experienced NP must: Act independently in evaluating patients and their subsequent care requirements; Take primary call, with MD backup, for both ER and inpatient patients. Perform simple procedures like injections, stitch removal, and wound debridement. Perform H&P for pre-op patients. Run both a post-op clinic and orthopedic care clinic. Perform initial knee, shoulder, wrist, ankle, hand, hip, and spine examinations; Interpret basic x-rays. Field patient phone calls, making decisions about script renewal or providing new medications. Be comfortable solving urgent patient issues independently. Be comfortable placing basic splints or casts. In addition, he/she will provide a leadership and training role for the clinic staff consisting of 2 Back Office Medical Assistants, 1 Surgery scheduler, and 2 Front Office Assistants. This is a patient-centered clinic where responsiveness and patient satisfaction are of primary concern. The clinic is in a start-up phase and can be limited in resources such as a shortage of medical support, equipment not always available, and an office staff that needs training to meet professional standards.A Hawaii license will be needed and can be acquired if the NP is not already licensed in Hawaii, Medical Staff credentialing with the Hospital is required as well.
